For this year of the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, Fisher House has

arranged a series of twelve lectures on the Nicaean Creed. It is an opportunity to explore our faith long captured in words said every Sunday. Four lectures have already been given this term: Revd Dr Mark Smith, the Dean of Clare College, on the historical context of the Council; Prof Eamon Duffy (pictured) on the opening words, 'I believe'; Fr Aidan Nichols, former assistant chaplain at Fisher House, on God as Creator; and Dr Elizabeth Theokritoff on the Son of God, who is 'consubstantial with the Father.' Our speakers have been purposefully chosen for their brilliance and from different traditions of Christianity. Each lecture stands alone but together they have built up a wonderful picture. The series has been well attended, including by members of the wider university community, and ensure that the Chaplaincy is what it should be: a place where we think about our faith and grow in understanding. The fifth and final lecture of this term is on Thursday 20 March at 6 pm: Revd Dr Alexander Jensen will explore the article, 'Incarnate of the Virgin Mary & crucified under Pontius Pilate.’
