Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Emeritus, came to Cambridge in January 1988 to give the then annual Fisher Lecture. Here he can be seen celebrating Mass in the Chapel before its present restored state. The Chaplain, Dom Christopher Jenkins OSB, stands beside him. The cardinal stayed overnight at Fisher House in a bedroom now known as the Ratzinger Room. When Fr Alban McCoy led the restoration of the Chapel, the first donation was given by Pope Benedict, a personal gift of 3,000 euros.
